I have to admit, "Proof" didn't come from the most positive place, as you can probably guess from the title. There are people in my life that don't understand what I do. They think art means you paint landscapes or still lifes only. I felt the need to prove to them that yes, I can paint damn flowers too! And just to add that extra little dig to these naysayers, a paintbrush never touched this canvas. The leaves were painted with a palette knife and those hydrangeas were painted with a stainless steel spoon.
*update: I couldn't take it anymore. Knowing this painting came from a negative, unhappy place - the opposite of what I'm trying to do here - it just felt heavy and serious. I sat and thought about what I could do to make it feel lighter and more fun. Then it hit me. It needed a childlike touch. Kids always feel so good and have so much fun when they color and draw. So my inner child drew a big bright yellow sun on the canvas right from the paint tube!
